On Monday, Maggie and I took our first day out. It had been two months since I had been to town and so I asked Cathy to tag along with me to help me get my sea legs. I had decided that Maggie was going to get groomed, so I made an appointment for her and off the three of us went. Cathy and I knocked about a bit while waiting for Maggie, including getting hamburgers from MacDonalds and going to Pitts Park to enjoy them.
Maggie was a different dog after her grooming, proud and prancing, happier than I had seen her in weeks. She's still spending more time in her bed, but she's no longer looking for Howard and no long under my feet every second, so I think I can safely say she has turned the corner toward recovering.
Once home, I realized how exhausted I am so I made straight for the recliner and have spent the majority of my time there since. A little later on, I'll let you know about when we'll be spending some time with Bill and Vickie.
Last night I remembered that a few years back Howard had read some of her poetry on cassette tape. I wanted to hear her voice back when she was well, when her thought processes were still her own and so I took a chance and listened to one of those tapes. I was a little nervous about how I would react, but I needed a reminder of her before she became so very sick. And it was the right thing to do.
As I listened, a renewed peace came over me and that was the voice soothing my head and heart as I fell asleep. It was exactly what I needed to hear.
Howard obituary was in yesterday's local paper. HERE it is.
Have a happy Wednesday.
